About Taxopedia Project

Information is the currency of democracy.
Thomas Jefferson

We the People of the United States elect our representatives to create law and we employ the government to execute our will. It is our right to know and control how government spends our money.

For decades, Congress expanded federal budget by creating government programs and institutions. According to the law the government must disclose all its financial, structural and historic information. However, unless this information is collected in one place, carefully organized and verified, there is not much use in such disclosure. Each official government site provides you with this information in different format and structure and dispersed over various locations. More so, the information is often replicated in multiple places within one government entity and even across multiple entities. Many of these sites use obscure categories and accounting gimmicks making it easier - either intentionally or not - to hide the truth.

Taxopedia is a public portal that provides people with easy access to both federal and state budgets, educates people about government structure and taxes, as well as the effect the government makes on our lives, and the related laws. In order to create the picture, we collect, organize and verify the information that already has been disclosed on official government web sites and obtained from other reliable sources. This site is created by the people and for the people. We use the latest information technologies to make information more accessible and easy to understand.
